4/8/12 - Spring is a time of rebirth. A time of growth and rejuvenation –resurrection, if you please.

Here at Dynamo, we sprang into action last weekend with a return to Chapel Hill --taking third in the 2012 UNC Easter Invitational. This tournament featured competition from twenty-two men’s teams to make winning the equivalent of landing a 1st row parking space at church on Easter Sunday. Despite these odds Dynamo finished the weekend with a respectable ranking, and our former Dynamo teammate, Manny Torres, led his newly formed Jacksonville squad to win the coveted 1st place ranking over UNC Alum.

For Dynamo, it started in the all-important maiden game, against Charlotte, where Ken Beamon went into beast-mode, scoring four of the six Dynamo goals and sealing the win over a Charlotte team, who, no doubt recalls their victory over Dynamo’s A squad at the 2011 Power Bar Cup. Much later that day, the Dynamo-UNC Alum game was tied going into the middle of the 4th quarter, but UNC alum got open three too many times without adequate cover late in the 4th to widen the gap and solidify our loss –it all happened very quickly, and before Dynamo knew it we were standing in a circle trying to pinpoint what happened! In the Sunday 8am game, against the DC Wetskins, the match was won decisively by an aggressive Dynamo defense that was able to convert on the fast breaks -- letting Andy Neff and Mike Wong out-swim their opponents to give Dynamo the win. In the final game, Dynamo was clearly better than the University of Delaware team. Delaware had one excellent player, but not enough depth to provide much of a challenge. Our defense held them and the 2nd half had them scoreless. Defense was hot for 15 out of 16 quarters in this tournament. Once we step it up to 16/16 and strengthen our passing, the game is sure to change for the better.

We’ll pick it back up in Tampa on May 5th where we turn up the competition a notch, playing against NYAC, FL, and teams from abroad.

Easter Peeps
4/1/12 - A strong Dynamo team showed up in Athens to take home the gold from the 2012 UGA Spring Classic. For Dynamo, this tournament was about getting out to play with fellow southeastern teams, but it was also about playing together as a team. Trip organizer, Mike Wong, tells it best: “(The) scores don't speak for the improvement that was shown as the tournament progressed. Specifically defense (stuffing and helping out the hole, pressing shooting threats) Offense improved with ball side drives, solid 6-5”. Dynamo started strong but became a cohesive unit by tournament end.

One further note, Mike may be right about the scores not speaking for improvement during the tournament, but if compared with 2011’s disappointing results at this very tournament, the scores do speak volumes about the squad’s improvement over the last year. This was an important win for Dynamo, and a great start to the 2012 tournament season.

Next week Dynamo will be in Chapel Hill, North Carolina playing at UNC where competition will be taken up a notch, and on May 5th, competition continues on the beach in Tampa, Florida.
