Dynamo Youth Water Polo

Dynamo Youth Water Polo - 2018
Dynamo Youth Water Polo is where High School and Middle School aged girls and boys from across Georgia develop and improve their technical skills and understanding of the game through USA Water Polo instruction and competition.  Dynamo Youth Water Polo, the only USAWP youth club in Georgia, is a program of Dynamo Water Polo Club, one of the largest and most successful USA Water Polo clubs in the Southeastern United States.

The 2018 season runs from mid-February through June (July if we qualify for Junior Olympic).  More details below.

In 2017, DWPC Youth had 58 players from 8 different GHSWPA teams.  DWPC Youth hosted a regional tournament in May.  Both the Girls and Boys had great June trips to Orlando for the Zone Championships and the Girls traveled to California for the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics national championships.

Players must complete 100 yards freestyle without stopping and in less than two minutes, with technique that meets the coaches’ satisfaction.  Space is limited.  Coaches have the right to make cuts/selections as they see fit.

GHSWPA players do NOT have to choose between spring activity with their GHSWPA team and DWPC Youth; we encourage them to do both.

To register for the 2018 Dynamo Youth Water Polo season, please fill out this form. (No money required to register.)

2018 Training Schedule:
Spring training begins Tuesday, February 6th and runs through June.  If we qualify for the USAWP JO Championships in CA (JULY), practice will extend appropriately.
Tuesdays                7:30 - 9:30pm (:30 min dryland, 1.5.hr pool)
Thursdays              7:30 - 9:30pm (:30 min dryland, 1.5.hr pool)
Sundays                 12:00 - 2:00pm (:30 min dryland, 1.5.hr pool)

Tournaments:
We host and attend USAWP tournaments.  Participation is highly recommend but not required.  Likely tournaments may include (details confirmed as available):
  • Dynamo Youth Invitational (early May @ Dynamo)
  • S.E. Zone Junior Olympic Qualifier (mid-June in FL)
  • Junior Olympic National Championships (Boys - July 21-24; Girls - July 26-28) in San Jose, CA
Tournament costs are incremental and shared by participants.

Equipment:
Athletes provide:
  • Suit (Boys: Briefs preferred.  Girls: One piece.  Wide shoulder straps preferred.)
  • Goggles
  • Dryland clothes (tennis shoes, t-shirt, shorts, etc.)

You don’t need to buy a new/polo-specific suit just to show up.  Come with what you have and if you want to commit we can help you pick out a great water polo suit.  If you want to buy a water polo suit anyway, please use Turbo/Kap7. (They sponsor DWPC, the GHSWPA and our National Teams.)  DWPC team suits and gear orders placed at the start of the season.

The club provides balls, caps, dryland equipment, etc.

Cost:
Tentatively: $500.00 for the entire 5 month season (February – June)

Please do not pay dues or register with USAWP until the coaches tell you that you made the roster.
Dues and USAWP membership must be completed promptly.

You must also register with United States Water Polo.  You can pay as little as $35/year (Bronze).  We recommend the $98/year (Gold) level, as this makes you eligible for Junior Olympics, the Olympic Development Program (ODP), etc.

Tournament costs are not included in dues.  Tournament costs (including coach travel costs) are divided equally among all participating players.
